Working towards multiculturalism

The Finnish population structure is constantly changing. The field of culture also needs to take into consideration the challenges of a culturally diversifying society.

Taking cultural diversity into account serves towards a more innovative and better quality Finnish culture. In a multicultural society diversity and difference are at the core of innovations.

Promoting multiculturalism in Finland

Developing a multicultural society in Finland has largely relied on single projects. These projects have often been designed by mainstream Finns and aimed either at the migrant population or to tell others about migrants.

Thus far it has mainly been other parts of the population that have spoken for the migrants. Our goal is that migrants could develop and realize cultural projects themselves. It is essential to provide better educational and employment opportunities and to raise the public profile of migrants as part of Finnish culture.
